In 1970 Tony Crosswell was asked by Major General Bell of the USAF to
develop a commercially available system of bird control for their airfields
including birds of prey as a biological method. It rapidly became clear that
there was a vast difference between falconry as a traditional sport and
deterrence for bird control where the bird of prey only serves a function
and the scare factor is exploited as the goal in itself. It was necessary to
understand the instinctive biological processes at work. The wild bird is
born with an instinctive avoidance response to the sight of a bird of prey
such that different birds of prey have different effects in different
circumstances. More than this our task was to combine other techniques of
deterrence to change the environmental balance in specific locations.

As our team of people grew we were soon asked to extend our operation for
other customers - RAE Boscombe Down, RAE Farnborough and RAE Bedford,
the Australian government took us to Sydney International Airport and
more airfields followed. Other industries saw the potential and we
found ourselves in hospitals, food factories, industrial complexes and
landfill sites - all found a need in a period when birds were also
adapting and taking advantage of man's environment. Many species found
new niches - intensive agriculture saw Wood Pigeons in huge flocks
moving around winter crops, Starlings had a population explosion in
the new opportunities and Gulls moved into our cities and Landfills
in rapidly growing numbers. Today we have experience of more than 50
operations and have always proved professional bird control a success.

With our long experience and teams of properly trained staff we provide
a comprehensive bird control service specifically tailored to each
individual site. A balance of financial, environmental and public relations
aspects is taken into account in the design of the program. Staff training
reflects these aspects so that so that local residents, the Environmental
Agency, Health & Safety and other interested parties are all satisfied
with the result. Many of our clients are of long standing - why not contact
them to hear first hand of our high standard of professional service?

It is now possible to use techniques which maintain environmental harmony
on the basis of well researched and understood principles of proven
effectiveness.

We have 29 years of business experience in this environment - contract
management, staff management and training, finance and cost structuring,
program design, planning and public inquiries, publicity and public
relations, falcon propagation and conservation. Much has been learned
in recent years about the relationships birds have with man's environment.
The Environmental Agency, Health & Safety Executive, Public Health
Departments, CAA and aircraft safety bodies all require ever higher
standards of bird management. Techniques have been developed which allow
new levels of management to be achieved. Understanding of ecology and
behaviour enables us to use natural behaviour to overcome our problems
and maintain a better balance for the benefit of us all. Tony Crosswell
will be pleased to design a program for you.
